How to Trek to Triund On Your Own

This article will GUIDE you on how to hike and trek to Triund Hill at your own between April to November months as during (Dec-March first week) Snowfall it is better to have guide. One can access or Trek to Triund and Laka or Illaqa in McLeodganj, Dharamsala and Himachal Pradesh via:

For Triund Hill, Hiking, Trekking and Camping first you need to arrive Dharamsala ISBT

Dharamsala ISBT
Dharamsala Interstate Bus Terminal

Road: -1Pathankot to Gaggal then Dharamsala. 2. New Delhi to Chandigarh and then Kangra and finally Dharamsala.

Train: – The nearest railway stations on the Simla-Kangra of narrow gauge line are at Jassur (Nurpur, Kangra, and Himachal Pradesh) and Paror railway stop near Nagrota (about 20 km south of Dharamsala). The nearest rail head of broad gauge is at Pathankot (about 85 km).

Air: – Gaggal Airport (which is also known as Kangra Airport) to Gaggal market and turn left for Dharamsala no need to go Kangra. Spicejet and others have regular flights to Dharamsala airport, with one stop in Delhi or Mumbai.

Once you are in Dharamsala Bus Stand / ISBT you can board bus for McLeod Ganj (bus fare is 15/- INR) or shared taxi (fare is 20/- INR) or special booked taxi (may cost 450/-INR) to reach McLeodganj. During off season hotel rooms in Dharamsala and McLeodganj are economic and affordable.

Mcleod Ganj Main Square

McLeod Ganj Main Square
McLeod Ganj Main Square

On trek from Mcleodganj to Triund, you first reach Dharamkot either on foot from Main Square of McLeodganj to a steep and rigid upward walk to your left hand side and take a walk of about 45 minutes via   office of Regional Mountaineering Centre, Dharamsala. Turn left side from the three way intersection in front of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Regional Mountaineering Centre and then you will reach Dharamkot and stand in front of the Water Tank and the Govt Primary school of Dharamkot.

You will also find a cafeteria here. Or you can hire an Auto Rickshaw or taxi/cab for INR 60/- and INR 300/- to get a drop up to Dharamkot Primary School.   Just from the left side of the Water Storage Tank and the main gate of Primary School, Dharamkot a jungle trail starts which will consume one hour of walk and will lead you to Gallu Devi Temple. Or you can continue with hired taxi/cab/auto-rickshaw through a rough road up to Gallu Devi Temple. (It’ll be costlier due to very poor road condition).

Or if you are in Bhagsu Nag then you can follow a steep trek on the left of German Bakery which goes through shops and a temple and then Bhagsu Nag village and will finally end on the back side of Gallu Devi Temple. (This is a shortcut for Gallu Devi Temple, but a hard and stiff trek and will consume most of your energy, so try to avoid it).

After reaching Gallu Devi Temple, here you will come across another cafeteria/shop named Rest A While with a small water pond and which is operational since 1988 and managed by Mr Tinku. Gallu Devi Temple is on top of the shop and another perfect one named Sun & Moon Café owned by Mr.Thapa.

Sun & Moon Cafe
Sun & Moon Cafe

From Gallu Devi Temple you can see Kareri and Balreh Village on North-West direction and BhagsuNag in East. Here you will also find three Guest Houses, providing rooms for stay for INR 500/- per night (off season).

Here the trail going upward by the side of Sun & Moon Cafe is the Trail to Triund Hill and at present Forest Department has put fence on the outer-side of trail, so no chance of getting lost unless someone wanders off intentionally!

The trek from Sh. Gallu Devi temple gets a bit of tough, with steep curves and moderate trails. It takes you about four hours (leisurely trek) and three hours (fast trek) to reach Triund Hill but for some it may take 6 hours to reach the top. On your way to Triund you will come across two refreshment shops first one named Magic View Cafė at a height of 2,500 meter run and owned by Shri Joginder Sharma since 1984 and other adjoining Magic View Cafė is Best View Cafė run by Shri Hemraj since 1998. Continue your trek after a rest and you will reach Triund Hill within 1 or 2 hours depending upon your stamina.

Do not walk on the outer steps of the trek and watch your steps…this trek is a moderate to easy category trek…so try to avoid any type of accident. Also please do not litter or throw garbage on the treks or down in the valley, Contribute and Help in keeping Nature Clean. Happy Trekking!

In Triund, there is a Guest House operated by Forest Department Dharamsala and the booking can be done by visiting their office Forest Complex, which is behind Park Restaurant opposite to Dharamsala Police Station and General Post Office. (They have stopped booking over phone due to some tricky calls and some mischievous tourists) The rooms cost around 500 INR* (rates may vary) per day!

      1. I have moved to dharamshala recently.. someone told me that triund is risky, last year 2 frenchmen went missing. That scared me a bit. But from ur blog it doesnt seem like that..

        1. 😀 it’s not like that….we have seen solo girl Hiking Indrahar Pass n solo trekkers in Gunna Mata temple area…the case of French nationals is like dubious and that too when the region is populated by shepherds…kind of weird but no chance of bear or human attack…..rest Dhauladhar knows best

        2. It’s not like that. It was our first trek and took 8 hours from the foothill. We didn’t tk cab to gally Devi as we wanted to have experience for the first tym. It was little bit scary from best view café as there was basically no path. There was huge rocks to climb up. And a bit of risky, otherwise a really gd trek for the first timer.

      2. I have planed a visit of Mcleo, Dharmshala & Kangra on 3rd week of May’17.. I m planning to visit Triund but I wanted to take my parents there as they never seen such place.. is there any possibility that I can reach there without tracking like by helipad or with horse.. Kindly help..

        1. you can hire pony or horse from Gallu Devi Temple ahead Dharamkot…up to Gallu Devi Temple you can reach there by Taxi worth 300 to 500 INR

    1. We just got back from Triund. It was fantastic. We hired an excellent guide, Ramjeet (The Mountain Boy). He was absolutely the best. Considerate and attentive and very informative because he grew up in a nearby village. He found wood and built us a nice campfire. We had all our gear except a tent and he got us a rental tent for a small fee. As a bonus, his father manages one of the government guesthouses and was able to help feed us great food at low cost. His number is +91 88941 87613
He can also arrange taxi to/from the Sun and Moon Cafe so you don’t have to trek with automobile traffic from McLeodGanj!

      1. thank you so much sir for your feedback…we’d love to see you for farther trek up to Indrahar Pass and beyond up to Chamba :D..

  7. hi guys.. i am planning to take this trek (on 2nd june) with friends but have only morning to evening in hand. in fact my bus from dharamshala is at 7:30pm on monday. please advise, how to finish this trek in one day if i start very early in the morning.

    >> i wish to witness maximum scenic beauty during the trek so help me with routes i should take and make the most out of it.

    >> is the trek difficult for first timers?

    >> will the climate be comfortable to trek? i hope its cold.

    1. hi to complete it in one day start early by 6 AM so that you get to hear the sounds of Nature and the early rays of sun rise..on trail also this will help to get away from the Hot Sun later on trail…it’s not difficult trek..and moderate cold

      1. hey thanks! ill definitely start early.
        > do i need a guide to take along or can manage on my own?
        > how much time will i take to reach on top and get back?

        1. you need guide only during heavy snowfall…as of now it is a simple hill walk…all you need to be is careful and not walk on outer edges of trail…and if you start by 6 AM then you can reach Triund Hill by 10-11 AM and spend good time up there say till 3pm and can reach back to McLeodganj or Dharamsala by 6-7pm as there is plenty of evening light during summer 🙂

  8. hii admin..m shibasis from kolkata..!!i would like to go to this triund trek in the mid october with my 5 other friends.i hv never been to tht part so can you suggest the details for guides ,porter and about expences..!!we hv 7 days in our hand so can you plan our trek including triund..!! it will be graet help for us..!waitins for ur reply..!!

  9. Hi Friend,

We are five frndzzz and planning for Triund trek in Mid of September, can we go at this time, or its heavy rain there in this month. Please advise.

    Thanks
    Anu

  10. Hi I am planning on trekking in November this year. I’m a first time trekker, so need to know what will the weather be like at this time of the year.

Also My main concern are toilets. Are there toilets, and if there are what kind of toilets are available. need to also know if we need to make prior bookings for these.

    1. Hi, First week of Nov will be good up to Indrahar Pass and for Triund Hill and SnowLine Cafe till Nov end….as of toilets : there is no specific arrangement for it….there are toilet rooms but not used for lack of water on spot though there is a small stream 2km Northward to left below trail to SnowLine Cafe and tea stall owners fetch water from there..so toilet is in open space….and also as of guides if you are planning only up to SnowLine Cafe and Triund Hill then you don’t need guide till Snow season (say Dec to April) but we do recommend guides for Indrahar Pass. for Triund and SnowLine it is simple trek just watch your steps 🙂 and take time to read here https://triundhill.blogspot.in/p/route-for-triund.html?m=0 or https://www.wikihow.com/Trek-to-Triund-Hill
and for Booking of rooms in Rest House you need to visit in person the office of Forest Complex opposite to General Post Office Dharamsala and behind the Restaurant… 🙂

let us know either here or fb page inbox message if you need further assistance

      Best Wishes

1 – Is this is the ideal season to visit Triund
2 – Ca we get tents there itself for 4 people or do we need to book in advance
3 – Do we need to carry some sort of eatable items or gas burner with us
4 – Is it safe to stay night at the peak
5 – Would it be enough to carry sleeping bags only for night stay
6 – I read somewhere that be careful from asian bear or female black deer @ triund…is that so ?

    Kindly advice !

    Thanks
    Vineet

    1. hi the trail to Guna Devi goes from SnowLine and Laka…and you need a guide for same…and so recommend you first do Triund Hill and come back to Gallu Devi Temple near Sun & Moon Cafe and from there take right hand trail that goes through small waterfall and further that same trail goes to Guna Devi Temple via Balreh village…and if you consider this plan then you don’t need any guide……and in Guna Devi temple you can even stay for a night..there is a sarai (rest rooms with woolen blankets)…..

  13. Sorry if I double-posted! I just joined the discussion! Friends and I are planning to trek June 2015 in McLeodganj area. We want to see both Triund and Guna Devi. Could anyone best advise the distance between these two, and any recommendations? Thank-you!

    1. Hi, first trek to Triund and then come back to Gallu Devi Temple area rest in Guest House and on other day head to Guna Devi Temple via Balreh or Ball village easy trek no guides needed

    1. Thank you so much for writing back…

      1. Should we take our own tent? No need, you’ll get everything in Triund Hill
      2. Is winter wear required for night stay? Yes, warm woolens or light weight warm jacket
      3. We r planning to stay at night n leave early morning for mcloedganj so tat we can go to Dalhousie. Wat time u Suggest us to leave? Leave Triund Hill early by 07:00AM well there is a private bus (titled as Prince) leaving from D/sala ISBT around 11:45 AM to 12:00 PM direct for Dalhousie and reaches there by 7pm
      4. We r all first timers wat things should we carry? Warm Jackets or clothes and for trail carry water and fruits or juice (you’ll come across 3 cafes on trail so no worry)

      2. Thanks Admin for informative reply, we will surely keep d environment clean n green. There has been some change in our program n we r going for 2 nights/ 3 days trek to Laka glacier. 1. Hi Shivee!!
It would be our pleasure if u join us but our office holidays are during that period. Sorry but we cant prepone the trip.

      1. Hi Nitesh,

i have seen your trekking plan mentioned above. I think our travel dates do not match as you are starting early. We ae starting on 4th oct.

  15. Hi Admin..
I’m planning to trek till Lahesh caves in 1st week of October… Will I get to see snow at snowline or after snowline till Lahesh caves?
And where can I get sleeping bags on rent from?
    Thanks in advance..

  16. Hi there! I am planing Triund, Laka and Indrahara this Sept, last weekend… Most probs I will be traveling solo.. Any tips on how to manage stay..? I am not sure of where to stay.. Day one I will b staying in Triund. n day two Lahesh caves.. Also if anyone is going to the same trek.. I can join them..

    1. We recommend First Stay in SnowLine Cafe and on day 2 if you get some fellow trekkers ( which is very likely possible) then trek to Indrahar Pass and come back to SnowLine Cafe same day by eve…and talking of solo then too we suggest first stay in SnowLine Cafe and then if still solo then don’t go beyond Lahesh Cave…..but chances that you’ll find someone in SnowLine Cafe..avoid first stay in Triund Hill to save energy to cover Laka stretch up to Lahesh Cave.

      1. Hi, I would like to know that.. where exactly is snowline and can I stay here without any booking beforehand.. any contact details..? also is it a safe place to stay.. umm.. and what’s the tariff like?

        1. for SnowLine Cafe the trail goes from top back side of Forest Dept Rest House and from the left side of empty water cement tank…follow the trail upward which will take upward right turn and is single easy to follow trail..in mid way you’ll come across cemented patch and a small temple dedicated to as Tirange Wali Mata…and further trek will lead you to SnowLine Cafe…and talking of booking well no need but better is if you reach early…rest they have tent and sleeping bag facility also…as normally we / people sleep inside cafe which can easily accommodate 8 people and charge around 250/-INR (could be less or more) tent will cost around 800INR as of safety you’ll get to note that, food one time around 150 INR tea 30-35INR carry water bottle and refill in laka prior Lahesh Cave Climb up…and most probably you’ll find some company for sure…as not all comment here or in fb page… 😀 rest we wish you A Safe, Clean and Green Hike…Be A Proud Green Hiker :D.

          1. We are four people, 2 adults and two kids, aged 9 yrs. and 11 yrs., are leaving delhi on 01st april for triund and further. how is the snow condition there at triund. we are taking our own 4 men tent.

          2. there is moderate to less snow on final trail to Triund and less snow in Triund Hill and beyond Triund lies SnowLine Cafe and right now there is good snow on trail to SnowLine Cafe, SnowLine Cafe and Laka….you can pitch your tents and for that need to pay 100 INR to Forest Dept Guest House in Triund(the supervisor) of Guest House will collect himself and handover receipt for same…

    2. though we are sure that you’ll find some company….rest you can enjoy even SnowLine Cafe, Laka and Triund and schedule a longer trek to Indrahar Pass and Kawarsi and then exit Chamba for next time :)..we may execute our trek in next season of Oct 2015

        1. Hi Shivee,,,, i would be probably also travelling during the same time..if u want we can do the trek together…i have earlier posted my whole plan…my idea is to trek till triund nd snowline !! Do let me know !

          1. sounds great Nitesh.. but I wanna do Laka.. Indrahara .. as well.. it wont take much time I think.. any ways we can trek together till snowline.. ! 🙂

          2. Hi Shivee…thnx fr d reply….I can also join fr further trek…bt coz I was traveling solo…I thought of restricting myself till snowline….anyways wat r ur travel dates ? And if at all we r hiking together how do we connect with each other…no’s ..email I’d and all…
            Cheers

          3. hi renu i will also plan to triund with ma friends when u come ??? i will come in oct. 18-19
any one same plan on this date

  17. Hi all,

I am planning to do the Triund and Snowline Hike. I just wanted to know if I can do a solo hiking,…given the fact that i have never done trekking before. Further, I have made a rough plan for the trip…would like ur comments if its doable or not:

Oct 01: start from delhi in night
Oct 02: Reach Dharamshala early morning. Relax a little. Start the trek for Triund. reach Triund mid-day….explore the place. do night stay in Triund itself (options : Guest houses/Tents).
Oct 03: Trek further to snowline. Have lunch there itself (if available) head back to Dharamshala and reach there by evening. Spend night in Dharamshala
Oct 04: Go to bir for paragliding

    Head back to base 🙂

    1. this sounds perfect….up to SnowLine Cafe no problem for solo hike you’ll get food and stay even in SnowLine Cafe…Snowline Cafe is just 1 hour climb from Triund

      1. THanks a lot for the reply…jus a few more queries…as you must be aware…Oct 2-4 is an extended weekend…
        1) So do i need to do any kind of pre-booking in triund for night stay ? for tents or the forest guest house…also if u can provide number of someone who can arrange tent in triund for night stay
        2) Do i need woolen clothes for that period of time ?
        3) Will i get to see some snow anywere nearby 😉

  18. Hi Triund,

I am planning a trip in the First week of October from 2nd to 4th, I will be reaching there by 2nd Oct, early morning. I am trying to look for hotels but couldn’t exactly find whats good or whats not.. and also as this is my first trek so little confused bout some things. still got some idea after going through the discussions below, But, please guide me on following things:

    1. As I will be reaching there in the early morning, what i should do? like i should book the hotel first and then start for the trek as i will be staying in Mcleodganj till 4th oct, and the trek will be finished by 3rd what i got to know from the discussions.. ? Or I should book the hotel from Delhi only in advance.?

    2. And if I am booking a hotel (for the 3rd night), Please suggest me some decent nice hotel which comes in reasonable prices or plz guide me on the prices, I tried looking on TripAdvisor but it confused me even more.?

    3. Is there any alcohol shops available there nearby..? Or do i need to carry my stuff along with me? 😛 (don’t worry i M a decent drinker :/)

    4. The tents which I will be getting there on triund hill or snowline cafe is good for two or just for one..? And, whats that govt. tents and private tents..? and where should i stay on 2nd night triund hill or snowline cafe(like if i want a better surroundings like where do i get the better view when i will be getting up in the morning?) Or, will I be able to reach snowline by 2nd evening..?

    5. I have heard of the “Shiva Cafe” there somewhere, Is it all about boose and stuff or can i also get a nice coffee over there..? and will I be able to visit that on 3rd after finishing my trek and before I go to hotel for the night stay? Or, I should try for it on 4th before leaving in the evening?

    6. Last, apart from triund hill trekking, suggest me something good I can do in the remaining time I will be there as I will be leaving on 4th in the evening.

Would really appreciate if you could help me on these few things.. 🙂
I am planning again after this time in march.. Have heard that in march we can experience a great snow fall while we trek.

    Thanks
    Amit

    1. Hi thank you for writing back

for 1. & 2. we suggest you contact Sun & Moon Cafe 09805831447 in Gallu Devi Temple for Hotel thing..and you can stay in any Guest House here too….if you like…here is another contact httpss://www.facebook.com/pages/Sanjeev-Home-Stay/364563650357878 09736303213

for 3. better if you carry own stuff…but please Be A Green Hiker and dispose off plastic glasses or bottles in Trash bins of Magic View Cafe or Best View Cafe and the last one Praveen Tea Stall on trail to Triund Hill or Trash bins of SnowLine Cafe or Triund or if you can bring them back to McLeod then will be much much better 🙂

for 4. as you’ll reach Dharamsala early morning so from Guest House in Gallu Devi Temple or of your Choice there you can start by noon or 10 AM and reach Triund Hill by 4 -5pm and if you reach before 3 or 4 pm then after 1 hour trek you can reach SnowLine Cafe! The tents are two person and they also have 4 person tent! 2 person tent costs around 700*-800* INR (including fixed Charge of Forest Dept 100INR) rest the rate depends on season and tents are private

Talking of views then stay in Triund Hill and for more Close up view of Dhaulahdar and Peace then SnowLine Cafe! Even in SnowLine Cafe you can climb up behind cafe and from top semi flat surface have better views..rest your choice. (Be A Green Hiker 😀 )

      5. Shiva Cafe ~ We always avoid Bhagsu (boose and other stuff) you’ll get nice Coffee in Bhagsu in German Bakery right next to Bhagsu Taxi Stand no need to go to further..as of Waterfall now it is just water the Development thing has consumed the Charm and Peace of Waterfall.

      6. Beside Triund Hill in short span of time you can venture out up to Naddi Village to have views of Bhimgasturi Pass and Kareri Village and beside Dal Lake (at present not more than a dirty pond – we humans have trashed/developed this Beautiful Lake too!) For Naddi Village you can hire Autorickshaw from McLeodGanj stand!

We Wish you a Safe, Clean and Green Hike! Be A Proud Green Hiker 😀

      1. Hi Triund,

Really Thanks for the revert.. really appreciate your efforts for guiding people.. 🙂
But, Unfortunately I got some more queries, I called more than 15 hotels in Mcleodganj & Dharamkot for bookings but all i got to know that all mcleodganj is fully packed till October 11th, As there is some taiwan group arrived there for trekking so no hotel available.. and apart from that also I am confused about tents that in dese rush days if i will be able to get the tents also after i reaching triund or snowline as there is gonna be lot of people who would be occupying them.

And, One most weird thing i got to know from one of the hotel guy i called today, that if you don’t get the rooms don’t come or you will be stuck.. and also he suggested that we should have some backup like we should contact some guyz first for trekking and get a trek package or something before coming there, He said there has been some misshapenings so don’t trek alone. he said you will find some groups but don’t follow them till snowline, you may get lost.. please clear this.. that what should we do.. and what we should not..

and also one last thing.. that now i have a little different plan, the dates are same from 2nd to 4th but before i was planning to go on trek on 2nd aftr arriving there but now i got a room for jst 2nd night n vl have to checkout by 3rd.. so On 3rd I will be starting my trek to triund.

So, can you confirm me this one thing that i will surely be able to get a tent when i will be reaching there by 3rd October and will be able to spend the night up there. even after this heavy rush on those days.???

        Thanks
And yes I will be a green hiker for sure.. 🙂

        1. Hi please contact Sun & Moon Cafe 09805831447 he can arrange at Best as of packages..then this is business trick…we didn’t heard of any happenings as for now….skip McLeodGanj and contact 09805831447 after 7pm and let’s us know how things go…

Can I get one sleeping bag at truind. Also, since we have only 2 days can I trek all the way upto lahesh cave. 1. hi there…

i am planning to triund and snowline trek during the the period 2nd to 4th nov 2014…i want to know is it a good time to visit or not?i am liitle sceptical about the inclement harsh winter weather out there during that period..is it safe to trek during the period..also do u hv some batches of trekkers during that period…pl advice

        1. it will all right…just you need to have warm clothings and will find tea stall and Forest Dept Rest House operational…you may contact +919736820460 for guide if needed

  21. Hi..
I heard thay the trek from triund to lahesh caves is closed due to the weather. Is that so because I plan to do a trek to lahesh caves on 4th oct.

    1. Well the weather is good for now…it is only that after-noon it gets a bit of foggy- with feasibility of rain still we can go up to SnowLineCafe and from there if weather looks all right then can go to Lahesh Cave and come back….but try reaching Lahesh Cave by 3pm so that you can return to SnowLine Cafe or Triund by 6pm

  22. Hello everyone.

I’ll be travelling from Chandigarh to Dharamshala on 22nd night. Since this is mostly a solo trip for me I was wondering if anyone was interested to join me on the trek to the Snowline (beyond Triund ie). I’ll possibly be doing the trek on 24th or 25th. Cheers!

  23. Hi
Me and my wife will be traveling for tracking here on 5 or 6th dec .
Few doubts I have is it safe to track even if no one is around that time?
Can we come back same day ? And will we be able to see snow there?
Any suggestions we need to take care or carry with us for treck?

    Regards

    1. for snow depends on weather also carry warm clothings, yes you can come back same day, but for that you need to start early by 8am and Dec first week will be ok, if there will be snow then we suggest guide for Nov to April months (snow season) so you may contact +919736820460 or +919805831447

  24. Hi! first of all appreciate for the unconditional support to fellows like us!
Starting from Delhi, Me along with 4 friends are planning to trek snowline on 8-Nov. Just wanted to get some idea on the expected weather condition during that period, will it be snowing? We shall be reaching Mcleodganj on Saturday morning (8th) and planning to start for Delhi on Sunday eve.
Do have enough time to go beyond Snowline, what do you advise.
Considering you an expert, what are some basic guidelines that we must adhere being a first timer?
Will a leather jacket coupled with thermals doable?
    Eagerly Waiting for your reply..
    Many thanks.

    1. we appreciate your feedback..and of trek being first time..so by Sat noon 3pm you may reach Triund Hill and if weather remains favorable on Sunday then start early around 7am for SnowLine Cafe and Laka…and retreat to Triund by noon and climb down for McLeod by eve..but since you guys need to check out on Sunday eve then we suggest you cover only SnowLine Cafe and come back to Triund by 11 am and climb down for McLeod by 11:30 so that you reach ISBT or McLeodGanj by 3-4pm and head back to Delhi on time.. 🙂

Wishing you guys a Safe, Clean and Green Hike, Be A Proud Green Hiker and Share you GreenHiking pic with others as well to inspire them too

  25. Hi all,

I am from Gurgaon and planning to Trek Triund and Snowline between 27th – 30th, accompanied with another friend of mine. We are looking to reach Mcleodganj by 27th afternoon, stay overnight and then leave for Triund early next day i.e. 28th Nov, stay over nite in Triund (tents preferable) and next morning hike to Snowline (29th Nov). We return back to Mcleodganj the same day, return to Delhi on 30th Nov.

Some queries that I would need your advise on:

    – Trek Duration? Difficulty level for women?

    – weather during Nov end. Clothes/Accessories required?

    – Food items/Drinks/Medicines to carry during the trek?

    – Availability of Food/Lodging/Tents in Triund? Estimated cost for the same?

    – Direct buses/timings from Triund for return to Mcleodganj?

    – Any other special place to trek around Triund?

We would be glad to join any group or people who are traveling or are willing to travel during our visit 🙂
    Appreciate your advise/replies….God Bless.

    1. Good Day Adil Rasheed, thank you so much for writing back..

      – Trek Duration? Difficulty level for women? > for first timer it may take minimum 4 hrs and max 5-6 hrs

      – weather during Nov end. Clothes/Accessories required? > Warm jackets will do, with good grip shoes and though no chance of rain still “prevention is better so folding umbrella or light rain poncho will be fine”

      – Food items/Drinks/Medicines to carry during the trek? > medicine for cold and headach will do… as of food item there are three cafes on Trail so not worry for food still you can carry light fruits like Oragne for instant fresh energy, skip canned juice (choice)

      – Availability of Food/Lodging/Tents in Triund? Estimated cost for the same? > there is one Forest Dept Rest House and two pvt makeshift Rest House cost around 500/ per night-INR*, tent rates keep changing, food costs lunch 120-180/- tea 30/-(rates may vary), you can also have food in Forest Dept Rest House if feel so!

      – Direct buses/timings from Triund for return to Mcleodganj? > Direct bus up to Mcleod from Delhi for Triund Hill you can go up to Gallu Devi Temple via taxi and from Gallu Devi Temple on foot trek one side 5 hrs trek

      – Any other special place to trek around Triund? > You can go to Naddi and Guna Mata Temple a head Dal Lake

We would be glad to join any group or people who are traveling or are willing to travel during our visit 🙂 > you may find enough hikers/tourists for sure if not many 😀 and if you need special guide sort of then you may call +919736820460 Manu for his terms*! (though no need of guide between (May-Nov) but if weather is snowy like then it is recommended to have one)

Wishing you a Safe, Clean and Green Hike, Be A Proud Green Hiker 🙂

      1. Thank you for all your feedback. How can I contact Forest dept. Rest house if I need a stay? Any contact number or website available?

        Regards,
        Adil

        1. hi they used to book over phone but discontinued since some one tricked them few times…so now for all have to meet them in person in their office at Forest Complex which is behind Park Restaurant which is opposite to Dharamsala General Post Office and Bsnl Exchange and Police station….they hand over receipt of payment as a confirmation of booking which you show in Triund Rest House

  26. hello all
i am planning triund with my wife on end of this nov.i would like to know is it safe to trek for couples and would you suggest us to stay at triund or come back same day.

    1. yes it is safe, and if you want to come back same day then start early by 7am and if you want to stay then need to book Rest House of Forest Dept from Forest Complex office situated behind Park Restaurant which is on main road to ISBT and opposite to Police Station and General Post Office Dharamsala…for booking you need to go to office in person….though you can also hire tent in Triund Hill but depends on weather..means if snow than skip just go and come back and if weather in normal than can stay in Tents as well…We Wish you A Safe, Clean and Green Hike, Be A Proud Green Hiker

      1. Thanx for the reply.will look into info you provided.thank you so much.
and yes we will be following clean and green hike

  27. Hi,
I am planning the triund trek between 21st and 24th dec 2014. Is there a reference/number of a guide you can provide as all internet sources suggest guides in snow.
    Thanks in advance.

  28. Hi everyone, we ( a group of 13 and half , 3 couples a kid of 4 and friends ) are planning to celebrate new year 2015 in mcleodganj , jand need some information to better plan our journey. We would be reaching Mcleodganj via pathankot on 1st of Jan, what is generally the weather condition at that point of time? any chances of snowfall?. On 2nd our plan is to trek till triund, is it doable at that time ? We are looking for a budget accommodation option ( probably a cottage / house of 4-5 rooms should also work. All your help and advice much appreciated !

    1. Hi thank you for writing, well as of snowfall generally starts mid Dec (and some time not even by Dec 31st rare though) and for snow trek depends on amount of first snow fall here are some contacts of guides +919736159152; +919805439165 but for snow trek we recommend Mr Thapa over 09805831447 of the owner of httpss://www.facebook.com/pages/Sun-Moon-Cafe/1424602114424816 (behind Gallu Devi Temple ahead Dharamkot and Mcleod Ganj) he can suggest better on group trek and stay! Have A Safe, Clean and Green Hike, Be A Proud group of Green Hiker.

  29. Hi. We’re a couple planning to trek from Mcleodganj to Triund to Mana and back, from December 11 to 16. We’re looking for company as it may not be safe to go alone. Is anyone interested? We can also go with this company called Himalayan Quest, but are unsure if it is safe to go just on our own with their guide, porter and cook. Please advice or join in. Thanks

  30. Hi,
I am leaving Delhi tonight. Should reach Dharamsala by tomorrow. Its a two day plan and i want to trek upto Lahesh caves. The plan is to camp at Triund or Snowline tomorrow night, and then carry on to Lahesh on sunday. Firstly can someone tell me how the weather conditions are?. I am totally winging it, and not very well prepared i must add. Will i find a place to stay or tents during this time of the year? Please add any suggestions or advice.
    Thanks
    Arun Augustine

    1. Hi Arun, thank you so much for writing….well as of weather it is colder now…and talking of Lahesh Cave…you can start for Triund Hill after some rest in Dharamsala or Gallu Devi Temple area in Sun & Moon Cafe (behind Temple) and then reach Triund Hill by noon around 3pm and on next day start early for Lahesh Cave or Illaqa (if going alone no guide or no other trekker for Lahesh Cave) and by noon or evening you should reach back Triund Hill

…or if you find SnowLine Cafe which is 2km ahead Triund and 1km before Illaqa and 3km before Lahesh Cave then you can stay in SnowLine Cafe after retreat from Lahesh Cave or Illaqa…if you are trekking light then can carry your bag with and can stay in SnowLine Cafe…..or you can leave your some stuff in Sun & Moon Cafe (it is your choice-we are just suggesting)….you may talk to the owner of Sun & Moon Cafe at mobile here httpss://www.facebook.com/pages/Sun-Moon-Cafe/1424602114424816?rf=1404067443065078 and talk of charges of keeping baggage (if any) rest if you traveling light then no worry…you can even find or get guest house in Gallu Devi Temple area…and of staying in Triund Hill…tents are available over there though not suggested in this month…rest it is your choice….well you can consider the first paragraph as good option…also read this virtual guide https://www.wikihow.com/Trek-to-Triund-Hill

We wish you a Safe, Clean and Green Hike….and don’t forget to share some pics of your trek to Triund Hill.

      Best Wishes
      Triund Hill

    2. Sun and Moon Cafe is behind Gallu Devi Temple, which is 2km from Dharamkot and Dharamkot can be reached from McLeod Ganj Main Square using autorickshaw or taxi…advised is Autorickshaw (70-75 INR)..and from Dharamkot a trek goes from left hand side…backside the Primary School Dharamkot…can be traced easily…will take an hour or more on foot or you can continue on hired autorickshaw (may cost 300 INR from McLeod Ganj) rest in Sun & Moon Cafe and can talk about room there….so if you plan to stay in Guest House in Gallu Devi Temple area….then on Sunday from Triund if you start early for Lahesh Cave or Illaqa…then can retreat up to Gallu Devi Temple by evening (skipping stay in Snowline Cafe and Triund Hill)

    1. Hi, Thank you so much for writing….and talking of January Triund Trek….depends on level of Snow…and this season chances are of Heavy Snowfall…so not advised…unless one is experienced in Snow Trekking and also Jan to Feb end one needs proper Guide…….Best time to enjoy snow in Triund Hill is between last days of Feb to March end…and by April end most of snow is soaked in by earth…..but if we witness backup snowfall in Feb then you can enjoy snow in Triund Hill by May month…

      Best Wishes,
      Triund Hill

  31. Hi we are from Gurgaon. We are planning a corporate trip starting from 18 night from Gurgaon/Delhi/NCR to McLeod Ganj. On 20th we are planning a trek to Triund and return by same evening. Few info required:
Is it possible to come back same day?
What is the situation of snow, is it safe to travel, we are group of 30 people, not experienced hikkers
Although we have hired a guide for direction n support

    1. Yes it is doable in a day…and since you have guide in hand than no need to worry, just make sure with him that he’s all prepared to cope with snowfall…..and now talking of snow…at present it is more than 2 feet and if it remained sunny for 2-3 days..then there will be not much issue… 🙂

Just do a favor…Be A Proud Group of Green Hikers…wishing you all A Safe, Clean and Green Hike.

      Best Wishes,
      Triund Hill

  32. I am planning to go Dharamshala 26th Dec – 28th Dec 2014. From whatever I read, Triund trek is something I would not want to miss. Can you please help me plan my trip. I want to cover local places (original plan) as well as Triund trek (plan evloved after reading this blog)

I will be reaching Dharamshala on 26th afternoon and plan to leave for Dalhousie on 28th late evening (where I am joining another trek). Can i do this trek given above schedule?

I have some queries. Would be great help if you can answer them –

    1) Is Dec period safe for the trek (due to weather conditions)?
    2) What is the difficulty level?
    3) What is the route and itenary for the trek? (I heard there are some caves, lake etc enroute)
    4) How many days would be required? Can I do it in 1 day (PS – I am not a regular trekker)
    5) If more than 1 day, what are accommodation options and their approx charges? Do you have
any contact details ? (I have already done my hotel booking as naadi village. But, can cancel it)

    Appreciate your response.

    1. Hi, Thank you so much for writing…

      1) Is Dec period safe for the trek (due to weather conditions)? > it is safe if accompanied by pro guide and also if you have done some trekking earlier too.
      2) What is the difficulty level? > in normal conditions (no snow) it is easy to moderate…but in snow requires great attention.
      3) What is the route and itenary for the trek? (I heard there are some caves, lake etc enroute) > lake is in Kareri Lake ahead Kareri Village, and Cave (Lahesh Cave) ahead Triund Hill but not recommended in snow conditions, you can try Triund Hill with guide only.
      4) How many days would be required? Can I do it in 1 day (PS – I am not a regular trekker) > Triund can be covered in a day but for Kareri Lake at least 3 days.
      5) If more than 1 day, what are accommodation options and their approx charges? Do you have
any contact details ? (I have already done my hotel booking as naadi village. But, can cancel it) > You may contact Mr Sonu +9816136355, +919736542849 of Balreh village and Naddi…he can arrange best budget stay and can plan all treks…

Have A Safe, Clean and Green Hike

      Best Wishes,
      Triund Hill

      1. Hi Admin… Thanks a lot for your response. It was very helpfull. I think it would not be very safe to trek in december end. Will plan the trek some other time.

However, if you can help me plan places that I should visit during my 2 days stay in Dharamshala (hotel is in naddi village) would be great.

        Appreciate your help.

        Thanks once again 🙂

        1. there is another trekking point…Guna Mata Temple ahead Naddi via Balreh village..and for same you can contact Mr Sonu +9816136355, +919736542849 since he is the resident of Balreh himself…you can cover Temple of site of Guna Mata in 3+3 hours from Naddi..and then there is Maroor Rock Cut Temples by made Pandavas in Kangra area..

  33. Hi Folks,

I am planning for trek from 3rd feb and want to explore places around it with my friend want to know I have mine own camp can I use that ?
Is it safe to travel at that time ? being pahadi I have experience in trekking 😀
Also I want to know where to park my vehicle at base ?
    Thanks

    1. Hi thank you so much for writing…well talking of first week of Feb month, pretty much depends on snow levels…and since you have tent/camp stuff you can pitch tent if it can bear snow conditions…as of regular times and months you only need to pay 100 INR to Forest Dept as charges…and parking can be done in front of Sun & Moon Cafe behind Gallu Devi Temple…which is ahead Dharamkot and McLeodganj…….just make sure how much is the snow for camping…otherwise you’ll to make it Day trek…like go to Triund enjoy and come back same day…if too much or heavy snow..

      Best Wishes,
      Triund Hill

      Be A Proud Green Hiker….

          1. I have another query regarding amenities ? is there have bathroom or toilet for trekkers 😛

  34. Hellooo…! I am planning a trek to triund on last of February 2015…..with my friends….so, I don’t know about it….this is my first experience …so, I need lots of information regarding a guide about triund….

        1. for camping and guide charges please contact +919736159152; +919805439165 and 09805831447 and of ….Delhi to McLeod Ganj…there is are plenty of Luxury to State Transport Buses operational up to McLeodg Ganj from Delhi…

    1. Good day Inderpreet…well talking of trek this month end…the weather is pleasant with sufficient snow to enjoy in Triund Hill….though it appears weather will be good by Dec end…so you come by Dec end…but as of Jan month Fresh snow fall is possible and Snow will close the trail and all the tea stalls and guest house in Triund..so we suggest you try to reach here by Dec end.. 🙂 and try to make it a single day trek.

We Wish You A Safe, Clean and Green Hike…..Be A Proud Green Hiker.

  35. Planning a trek to triund> snow line cafe in the first week of Mar’15, do we really require guide with us or there are necessary indicators on the trail.

    1. Hi…well it depends on level of snowfall in Jan and Feb month….as of now there is around 4 feet of snow in SnowLine Cafe area and more than 4 feet in Laka…so if there will be fresh snow fall in Jan and Feb (which is likely going to be) then we will not recommend Laka and SnowLine Cafe in first week of March 2015…just keep in touch in our https://www.facebook.com/triundhill/ and we’ll update over there about snow and weather during March….as of Triund it will be ok to trek by March 1st week….Best Wishes, Have A Safe, Clean and Green Hike, Be A Proud Green Hiker

      1. Thanks. so you suggest we get a guide along if we plan to move towards snowline in mar? can u provide your email so we can get in touch with you incase we need the guide(please note we are all beginners..and no experience in snow)…. also triund will be a one day trek right…can you suggest any other trail for mar 1st week?

      2. Hi.. We are a group of 4..beginners..plan to do the trek by 3rd or 4th March…Can u suggest on the above mentioned and will we need a guide for this trek. Can u share your email id so we can get in touch with you. Thanks

  36. Hii.. m planning a trek to triund on 24th jan.. is there any need to hire a guide, as m travelling solo… nd can snow line cafe be still functioning at that time..?

  37. Hi All:
I am planning for a round-trip trek from McLeodganj on March 9 – 10, staying the night at the guest house. Any idea, how much snow I should expect in the hiking-path (based on anyone’s past experience), so that I am well prepared with my clothing?
    Many thanks.

  38. HI Triund,

I am planning for a 2nd trip to triund, This time in Winters in this week from 24th to 26th of January. just wanted to know howz the weather there up on hill? If camping is still open on triund like if i am planning to stay up for a night on triund is it possible..? and are there enough trekkers right now over there as i am visiting with two friends of mine. let me know. any advice.??

    regards
    Amit Mathai

    1. hi..though there is plenty of snow…and tea stall/shops and guest house are operational…and as 24-26 we expect mild snow fall on 22-23 so night camping depends on weather…so we suggest a day hike…start early by 8 to 9 am and up here if you feel the situations ok for night stay,,,then you can stay…else retreat to McLeodganj.

Have A Safe, Clean and Green Hike, Be A Proud Group of Green Hikers..

  39. Hi,
I’m planning to do the Triund Trek on 6th of Feb. What is the condition there right now? Too much snow? I’ll probably have to do it in a day. Also i’m solo trekker.. any piece of advice you might have for me?

    1. Hi, thanks for writing…as of now it is raining and snow fall in high Dhauladhar…talking of Feb 6th will depend on Fresh Snowfall…though there is plenty of snow…and conditions are good only for a Day Trek…and solo is advised only if you have previous experience of snow trek…the only concern is the last climb of Triund Hill….as snow at that point is thick and slippery at some points…and by Feb 6 it may smooth out..still we suggest if you could join or follow some fellow trekkers….which is very likely that you may or will come across either in Sun & Moon Cafe or Dharamkot …we wish you a clean , green and safe hike…..be a proud green hiker..

  40. Hi,
I am planning to trek triund in the 1st-2nd week of april. I would spend around 3days in dharamshala including the trek to triund and snowline. I have planned to start early in the morning and reach triund by afternoon and continue to snowline in the evening. I want to cover both in one day and want to stay the night either at triund or snowline. I want your expert advice on where to have a night halt on the hill. How much would it cost for tent or guest house and what would be best. I have done quite a few treks before and this one is going to be my 1st solo trip. I also want to know whether their is any forest entry fees to be paid to the forest department before the start of the trek. What about washrooms if I stay in the tents. Kindly reply

    1. Hi thanks for writing..and kind words well we recommend night halt in SnowLine Cafe during your Laka trek as if you stay there you will be able to cover Lahesh Cave also which ahead Laka and stay in SnowLine Cafe costs around 600 to 700(may change) INR inside cafe and tent costs aroud 800 INR and food cost is same as in Triund Hill…Rooms of Forest Dept cost 500 INR pre booking needed by visiting their office in person. and no there is no fee for the trek….washrooms are in open : our government has not come up with good washroom even in The Mall Road of Shimla then (except the filthy one in Lakkar Bazar and one way down from Mall Road) we had suggested a Bio Toilet but no one cares…

We wish you A Safe, Clean and Green Hike, Be A Proud Green Hiker

      1. Hey thank you so much for the prompt reply. So its like I start early morning climb triund and continue to laka and lahesh the same day and halt night at snowline, next day morning climb down back to mcleodganj. From triund it will take around 1hr to reach snowline and what about lahesh caves from snowline? How far is lahesh caves from snowline?

    2. it will take another 45 minutes to 1 hour hillwalk from Triund Hill to SnowLine Cafe and 20-30 minutes for Laka/Ilaka and another 30 minutes for Lahesh Cave from Laka / Ilaka…but taking note of good snowfall this season (with intervals) we doubt if Lahesh Cave be easily accessible over thick Glacier on trail a head Laka….so start early for Triund and after some pause head to SnowLine Cafe pause over there and (in SnowLine Cafe you may like to get yourself listed for stay in upon arrival and prior leaving for Laka and Lahesh Cave) head to Laka and upon arriving Laka if you can trace the Red Arrows then head for Lahesh Cave and also do consider thickness of Glacier ahead Laka BUT if you don’t see any Red Arrows then don’t go for Lahesh Cave…since it is very easy to wander off the trail to Lahesh Cave (and things may not be good if it is your first time and you are solo) so if you don’t see Red Arrow mark and “Aum” symbol over a huge boulder (chances are that this very boulder may be covered with Glacier) then from Laka retreat to SnowLine Cafe and climb to the top of Triund Hill the trail goes from back side of SnowLine Cafe..sit up there and enjoy the view of Mighty Dhauladhar…in front North East and BhimGasutri Pass to North South and if you get some company then keep walking up to the original temple site of Kunal Pathri Devi at top point of Triund Hill (make sure you are 2-3 guys) and by evening roll back to SnowLine Cafe and next day to McLeod Ganj….. the cafe owner of SnowLine Cafe can give you a rough idea on trail to temple site of Kunal Pathri Devi (but don’t go alone(if it is your first time)…you can go up to an open meadow few meters uphill backside of SnowLine Cafe………………!

    1. Hi, thanks for writing…and talking of weather it is pleasant for now and not much snow on Trail to Triund Hill…and if you want to retry than this time too stay in Gallu Devi temple area and start early as per weather…and if you get the place for night stay in Triund Hill then stay otherwise retreat by evening…here is the pic of today’s view – image by yewkwang ~ We wish you a Safe, Clean and Green Hike, Be A Proud Green Hiker 🙂

      1. Hi , i am coming for trek this weekend … Could you help me with weather conditions as it has been changed in delhi ?

        1. right now it is clear sky with sun…but not sure how it will fare by eve or noon…pretty uncertain for tomorrow as well…and things may correct after Holi….it is only about rain and hailstorm even if there is any chance…

        2. well here is the update 12:00 pm March 4th, 2015…Dark snow clouds are back…while there is already heavy snowfall..even trail to Triund Hill is under snow…and chances are of more snowfall..plus rain..so you may reconsider your trekking for a week…..

  43. Hi, I am planning to trek to Triund in mid-March and would like to stay in the guest house on top of the hill overnight with my travel companion. What is the best way to book it in advance?

    1. hi thanks for writing and about advance booking…well for that you need to visit Forest Complex in person (1-2 day before the hike) they no longer book over phone….and they charge around 500 INR (may change) you may talk here 09805831447 or 09418564767. 09736608767 and make arrangement with them and pay them as per their choice

      1. Ok. Thank you very much for the help. Can you tell me what is the difference between the three phone numbers you listed? Also, would you expect there to be much snow on the hill by mid March? Thanks.

        1. no difference… 🙂 we are not associated with them…they have links with Guest Houses in Dharamkot and Gallu Devi Temple area so…they can be of use of for getting rooms either in McLeodGanj or more peaceful area like Dharamkot and Gallu and also they can send their boys to book room for Triund Hill as well…and as of snow there will be sufficient snow in Triund Hill and plenty a head Triund in SnowLine Cafe and Laka….! Best Wishes, We Wish You A Safe, Clean and Green HIke. Be A Proud Green Hiker

          1. Thanks again! One clarification , will the snow make the trail to Triund difficult and do you expect Snowline and Laka to be reachable in mid March or will there be too much snow? Thank you for all of your help.

  44. hey ! i am going to trek from mcleod to triund(with 7 other ppl) on 11th of march 2015 ,i want to go to triund and further hopefully to lahesh caves , is anyone else doing it on the same dates ?? can i go till lahesh caves on the same day and camp there if i start early from mcleod ganj??and can i go further than lahesh caves at this time of year without guide??

    1. hi, you can go up to Laka, SnowLine Cafe a head Triund but Lahesh Cave will be too much of cold and glacier too….so cave is not recommended in March and that too not without guide…we wish you all a Safe, Clean and Green Hike, Be A Proud Group of Green Hikers…Help Keep Nature Clean and Green

      1. hey triund ….thanks alot for the prompt reply , i also wanted to know that is it possible to stay in snowline cafe if we donnot have tents and sleeping bags , does cafe owner offers stay in his shack? and can you suggest a guide who can get us to lahesh caves and arrange tent and everything else too

2 questions if somebody can answer:
    – Can it be made in one day

    Thanx Darko

    1. Good day Darko,

      – Can it be made in one day > Yes If you start early in the morning, say 6-7am in summer, then you can escape sun rays on trail…and can reach Triund Hill and can cover SnowLine Cafe and further by 2pm and return back by 7pm to McLeod

      – I saw on map that there is a trek from Bhagsu waterfall is it longer, steeper or same?….yes it is long and steep plus no refreshment cafe on trail…also sun will be strong on that side…exhausting
We wish you a safe, clean and green hike….

  60. Hi. I’m planning a trip to dharamshala and want to trek to triund on 16september and stay overnight. My queries are as below:
    1. Is there anywhere we can keep our luggage just before we start the trek? We will be reaching Dharamshala on 15 and will be checking out on 16, so will need somewhere to keep our luggage.
    2. Can we rent tents at the time of the trek? Or do we need to book in advance online?
    3. Is a guide necessary?

    Hoping for a reply soon.
    Thanks!

    1. 1. Is there anywhere we can keep our luggage just before we start the trek? We will be reaching Dharamshala on 15 and will be checking out on 16, so will need somewhere to keep our luggage. > You may try out at Sun & Moon Cafe or Sagar Cottage just above the cafe…and these two points are on starting point of Triund Hill trail….usually they don’t keep but you can talk and agree with some fee sort of thing. Sun & Moon Cafe and Sagar Cottage are at Gallu Devi Temple area after Dharamkot and McLeodGanj….you can reach there either by Cab or Auto or even trek if your luggage is not that heavy…and consult about this point here 9805831447

      2. Can we rent tents at the time of the trek? Or do we need to book in advance online? > You’ll get tents and sleeping bag on spot at Triund Hill… beside Forest Dept there are 5 tea stalls that provide tent and accomodation…for tents no need of booking but it is also good if you reach there on time.

      3. Is a guide necessary? > If you are planning only Triund Hill and SnowLine Cafe..then you don’t need guide, least there is heavy Snowfall…all you need is careful eyes and stepping on the inner side of the trek…this is a easy trail for seasoned and moderate for new ones….so no chance of bad thing…all you need to avoid is Over Confidence and standing on edges for photo shoot….even a careless attitude and willful act of going off trail can do damage to some experienced one. The trail visibility is 100% clear…so no chance of getting “Lost” again unless one wishfully goes off trail.

Thanks for writing and We Wish You A Safe, Clean and Green Hike…Help Keep Mother Nature Clean.

I’m planning to do a trek up to Snowline Cafe on April 30th/May 1st. At first I was looking for trekking organizers, but as I’m doing a solo trek, I think I will go by myself. I wanted to check a couple of things:

    1. I plan to start around 10 AM and be up at Triund by 4 (max). Is this doable?
    2. Is there any chance that I may not find a tent to rent once I’m up there? Can I pre-book the tent by calling someone? Also, can someone guide me on how to pitch it in case I don’t know it well enough?
    3. I plan to wake up early (6/7 AM) on May 1st and head to Snowline and then head back to McLeodganj. Is it better to go all the way to Snowline on the first day itself and camp there? I would like to do that if the views are much better than from Triund and there are better chances of getting a tent,

During my stay at Dharamsala, we went to Truind and stayed in the Guest House and spent the night there. The next day we trekked to the snow line at the height of 14000 to 15000 feet. 110. Hello Hi ! I am planning a trek to Triund on start of December I’m solo traveler..so I need what items I carry and how much cost of tents and whats the temperature …in December.

  111. hey guys…

we are three Malaysians in our late 60s, reasonably fit & and have drawn up plans to do a day trek up Triund Jan. 30, 2017.

We think of spending 3 nights in all in McLeod Ganji, b4 heading to Bir Billing for paragliding, etc.

In Mc Leod Ganji, what do you think of Hotel Tibet or Honey & Spice Hotel?

Any advice from you guys is most welcome…tanx.

    dana

    1. hello…
Day hike by Jan 30th is feasible but is dependent on weather of 30th….and there will be fresh snowfall by Jan mid then do look out for guided hike…otherwise no need…just start early so that you can go on your own pace and reach the campsite and back by evening….and if you need guides then check with any numbers provided in the URL of Book Now tab of our facebook page..

as of hotel…both are ok, rest it is your choice Honey and Spice Delux suite is very common and should be 500 INR instead of 700+ so if that is ok with you then Honey and Spice all right…other wise try out Hotel Tibet and there is one more https://hotellhasa.in

      Billing paragliding sounds good

  112. Hi,

  113. I am planning to visit during the second week of Feb. How will be the situation that time. Planning to do an overnight stay.

    1. you may be able to do a guided or without guided Day Hike only and as of camping, it depends on the level of snowfall….please do contact Manu or Mr Thapa from Book Now button of our facebook page

  114. Hello we are 8 friends planning to visit dhramshala on 15decemeber.Will this trek be accessible at that time?

  115. Hi folks, I am from Delhi and planning to visit Triund on 17th and 18th December, 2016. I will reach McLeodganj on 17th morning near 6:30 AM and start trekking at the earliest so that I reach uphill accordingly. I Can someone help me with the current temperature variations and would it be too cold to stay in the tent during nightstay? Or Tent, sleeping bag and blankets would be enough?

  116. HI…! Is trekking opens in December end… i.e.,. Dec 31st and Jan 1st? Me and my firends planned to celebrate this Dec 31st on the top. Is it possible?

  117. Hello,

Me and another friend are planning on visiting Mcleodganj in mid-jan 2017. I have the following queries-

    1. Is it possible/safe to trek to Triund with the snowfall? Also, will camping be a problem in the snow?
    2. Even if it is snowing, is a day trek possible in the harsh winter?
    3. I’m aware that this trek is an easy to moderate trek but how difficult will the trek be in the snow?

    1. 1. Is it possible/safe to trek to Triund with the snowfall? Also, will camping be a problem in the snow? >> Camping is feasible only in guest house rooms…as of tents…it will too cold to camp out..

      2. Even if it is snowing, is a day trek possible in the harsh winter? >> If weather is clear with sun shine then a guided day hike will be feasible.

      3. I’m aware that this trek is an easy to moderate trek but how difficult will the trek be in the snow? >> not that difficult but we recommend guides for snow hike and trek

  118. hi….i am plannning ot go on triund trek at this end of december. is it open now or not? And how can i approach for that.

  119. Dear Admin,

We are 2 couples, planning to visit McLeodganj & near by area. We are planning to reach McLeodganj on 30th Dec morning.
This is what we have planned. Please suggest if needs any modification for betterment/adventure/safety/enjoyment.

30 Dec: reach McLeodganj, freshen up in hotel, leave for bir (para-gliding), come back by evening, local sight seeing (plz suggest places that really mean). Stay overnight in hotel (plz suggest good/safe hotel).
31 Dec: check out hotel early morning after break fast, keep luggage in hotel & start trekking for triund. Please suggest if we must halt somewhere in between &/or hike up to the hill. Also please suggest what is preferred guest house/tent. Any links/no for guest house/tents pre booking. Stay overnight, enjoy bon-fire.
01 Jan: Leave early morning for McLeodganj, catch the bus for Chandigarh. Board another bus for Delhi around 6 PM
02 Jan: Back to hell/Cell/office :-(. But definitely with plenty rejoicing & happy memories.

Looking forward for quick reply as this is gonna be vital for our trip decision.

    Regards

  120. Hi, I am planning to reach mcleodganj by 31st dec evening 67pm, I have already booked my stay in dharmkot and plan to do triund trek on 1st Jan same day or next day 2nd jan return.

please suggest if I should do same day / next day return triund. I have to report to Dalhousie for another trek on 02nd Jan evening.

    1. as now Camping to Triund campsite is not feasible due to cold….still you can go for guided (if heavy snow on trail) and without guide if no or very less snow….

    1. Mid Feb is possible, but still weather plays most….guide charges normally start from 500/* per person a day (** prices may vary as per season and condition of trail) but do consider if there is no fresh snowfall during second week of Feb…then you can check the conditions and can go on your own…for a day hike

  121. hello admin, we two friends are planning for triund-snowline-lahesh cave trek with one night stay at triund, one at snowline-lahesh cave, agian back to triund and stay, and than bk to mcleod gunj.. we may reach mcleod gunj on 26th march evening or 9th april evening (which would be better ?).. please guide us…

    1. hi…thanks for writing…well if you wish you camp in Snowline Cafe or more farther in Lahesh Cave (which is another 1-2 hours climb from SnowLine Cafe, the second campground of Triund Hill, after Triund.
So if you wish to camp in SnowLine Cafe then come mid April and if you want to go farther then come for hiking not before May. (Depends of Snowfall).
Though from SnowLine Cafe you can go up to the real top point of Triund Hill….so which ever is on your list…consider after mid April.

  122. Hi admin. I am planning for a trek in the second week of march. Since i am a first timer can u please brief me about the weather, things to consider for triund trekk. Is it safe to take the trekk without a guide or do we need to take one?

Is the forest deptt guest house above the hill top.
And since we are just two people so is anybody else travelling during the period 10th and 11th march 2017.

    1. yes…you can go even without guide….as long as there is no heavy snow/ice on trails….you can book forest rest house only after March 15, though tents are available on spot…still it is good to confirm…so call any number from the URL inside our https://www.facebook.com/triundhill/ and its Book Now tab
      .
.as of clothing…if you start early in the morning, a light warm jacket will be sufficient…do note…do not walk on the outer sides of the trail and don’t pose for selfies or pic on cliff edges…

  129. Sir I want to know that
Should I have to do some kind of pre booking for tent
Is tents are available on the top of the hill
    And if it is
Can I get tent directly on top of the hill without pre booking ?

And what will be the cost ?

    1. tents are available on spot…but on first come first serve basis…..there are 5-6 tea stalls and forest rest house that provide tent and food….and costs around 700/* for a tent that can house two person

  130. I am planning to visit triund in mid june, is it good time to be there. What kind of wheather we can expect?
Also some travel sites are providing this trek for 2D/1N for around Rs.3000 including meals, is it worth or we can get better deal by reaching mcloedganj and searching there?

  131. Hi Admin,

It so kind of you to keep answering queries of traveller since 2014. Its so great!
I read almost complete trail. As I am planning a Solo trip, I had many questions, half of which this long conversation cleared up.

Well still I do have some
    1. Are there any Cloak rooms facilities if I don’t wish to carry whole luggage with me on trek?
2.Which is much safer to stay for solo female, at snowline or triund hill tents?
    3. Toilet facilities when traveller take tent on rent from tea shops?
    4. Do it gets really crowdy during Mid June (concern for pre-bookings of tent)?
    5. Are tents okay if it rains?

    Thanks in advance.
    You are Humble!

    1. 1. Are there any Cloak rooms facilities if I don’t wish to carry whole luggage with me on trek? >> No as of now no such facility..though you can request your guest house owner or hotel owner to safe keep your luggage…(keep money and other similar important things on hand)

2.Which is much safer to stay for solo female, at snowline or triund hill tents? >> SnowLine Cafe is ok too…still camping near Forest Rest House will be good for first time solo hikers.

      3. Toilet facilities when traveller take tent on rent from tea shops? >> again 🙁 for this…there are toilets but no regular water supply, so they are almost of no use. You will have to rise up early for this or seek the company of girls group.

      4. Do it gets really crowdy during Mid June (concern for pre-bookings of tent)? >> Yes also depends on weather…still avoid weekend if possible. (If You want to hire tent in advance then may contact Manu from our list on sub-page of Triund page plus there are other references as well)

      5. Are tents okay if it rains? >> Ok for mild rain. Rest we can’t say about weather as humans have already disturbed, Mother Nature to extreme!

  132. Hi, Where we need to apply for the pre booking of tent? Should we have to go forest department office of booking?

Is there any limit of people can stay with tent in Triund?

    1. you can hire right at triund hill else you can approach forest office for room, may cost 500/- per night….tents start from for two person to 5 or more also

  133. there are two of us planning a trip to Triund, but never pitched a tent before. How do I work that out once we hire one?

  141. Hi ,

Because right now it’s -2 degree in night .. help me with my query ?? N also make it clear what kinda clothes we need to carry

  142. Hi Admin, information provided was really very valuable. Having single query regarding stay at Dharamkot in first week of April 2018, which place will be economical & best for accommodation…Mcleodgunj or Dharamkot? Also let me know if any one is looking for co-partner for this tour….Thanks

  143. Hi, We are a couple planning to trek triund mid feb 2018. A few questions
Would we need a guide ?
Would it be safe to camp at night as this wud be mostly mid of the week and I am assuming less crowded ?
We can stay in forest rest house at night as well, but my prime concern is safety during the trek, if we do it without a group just the two of us.
Would the checkpoints/small shops be open at that time?
    Please advice and suggest. Thanks

    1. We are planning it on 24th Feb, needed some details as our travel agent is adamant that the trek will remain close. We wanted to trek and stay overnight in camp.

Do let me know if you have the detail.

      1. Trekking on Feb month is completely dependent on the level of snow fall…if there is less or no snow on trails then, it is possible to hike and stay overnight…else we will have to wait till March end.

      1. Hi! This is such a wonderful forum and hats off to you for keeping it alive. So much information!!

My friend and I, and our 2 daughters (12 and 14 years) are planning the Triund trek on the 29th of Sept.

        1) What is the kind of weather we can expect? We had initially planned for 1st September but were advised against it.

        2) With 2 kids, we are a little sceptical about staying in tents. So prefer to book the rest house in Triund. But we want to do snowline and the glacier as well. Is it possible to leave early morning from Dharamkot, go up till the glacier, and come back to the triund rest house by the evening?

We just did the Kheerganga trek in June – up and down the same day. It was tiring but we managed. Will we manage this? Or do you suggest that we do snowline and glacier on the next day and return to dharamkot from there?

        3) We want to take a guide/ Porter. I know the trail is marked but it helps to have someone along to carry the bags and show us the way. If we stay the night on the top, what will the porter do? Could you please share some numbers for porters/ guides.

Thanks so much. Hope to hear from you soon.

        Rajni

  144. Hi,

    this page looks really promising.

We are a group of 3 friends intending to trek triund on 25th Feb, 2019. But we have been getting mixed opinions about the trek, as our travel agent said that the trek will be closed and camping wont be possible, whereas other few have said we can trek and camp on the mentioned dates.

Please guide us, whether we can trek and camp on 25th Feb, 2019? If so, would we need a guide?

    Will really appreciate the help.

    1. Trekking on Feb month is completely dependent on the level of snow fall…if there is less or no snow on trails then, it is possible to hike and stay overnight…else we will have to wait till March end.
As of guide…if there is mild snow on trails, then you need one guide. With snow on trails even an easy trails can become dangerous.

  145. Hello admin,
I am planning for the trek on 20th of may, I would like to know if trek can be complete in one day as its my frist trek or do you suggest an overnight stay . In case stay can you help me with food options and tent rental.

    1. It is one of the easiest trail….even if you instruct a child just to follow the beaten trail and not take any shortcuts, he/she will reach the first campsite with ease. Plus there are many many tea stall all along the trek. All one need is to be careful and not pose for selfies or photographs on trail edges.
You can start the trek as soon by 8 or 9 am from Gallu Devi Temple and reach after 3-4 hours of walk….stay there for an hour or so and return to Mcleod with ease. Plenty of day time in summer.
If you want to stay then need to book tents in advance and we can help with that, incase you want to stay, but now a days we don’t recommend overnight stay, as the place is crowded and has no toilet room facility.
If you love to camp over night, then we have some of the best and secluded trekking destinations outside Dharamsala area…all you need is to tag some friend with self, means at least two person for night camp and trek. For more information you can contact us at info@triundhill.com
We Wish you a Safe, Clean and Green Hike

      1. Good day, yes it is safe to trek in monsoon, just you have to be prepared for sudden rainfall. Triund is safe to trek even in Monsoon season and is safe for solo girls as well.

    1. Well there are three near the trail end and they are with in 100 meters of range towards north and one is towards south east but around 300 to 500 meters of distance.

  146. Hello, you sure have good information and that too for free. Anyway, can we trek to Triund in January? What is the condition of Triund trek? Can we go without guide or do we need to hire a guide? Also if you provide Triund camping then what are the packages for the group of 7 and for the solo trekker!
Actually, I am thinking of coming for Triund trek in January 2021 with my college friends and we all are students of Delhi University! Please reply with above mentioned queries…thank you!

  147. This has all of the information, I needed to clear my doubts about this trek. Now I will go for the day hike to Triund during my stay at Mcleod. I will be flying in to India and then Mcleodganj in the last week of February 2022. I hope to meet you as well, if you don’t mind ?

  148. Thanks a lot, your guidance helped me in concluding my first ever solo trek to Triund and Kareri lake.

  149. Is it possible to complete the Triund trek in a day? Can we see Dharamshala Cricket Stadium from Triund? Actually we are planning our trek to triund in coming weekend of December 2023 and may be the Christmas, so do we need guide during that period and what about snow and weather all like that. Also can you suggest about stay as well. Will a home stay be good or some hotel?
